Job Description : Position Overview
The Senior Construction Project Manager will lead major heavy highway and civil infrastructure projects, overseeing all aspects from planning and execution to financial performance and client satisfaction.
This position is responsible for technical, operational, and administrative oversight to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience with Caltrans projects, earthwork, paving, underground utilities, and concrete, coupled with proven leadership skills to manage multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities :
Project Management.
Lead planning, scheduling, and execution of multiple heavy highway and site development projects.
Ensure full compliance with contract terms, design specifications, and safety regulations.
Oversee project documentation including contracts, submittals, change orders, and cost reports.
Manage financials including budgets, forecasts, billing, and profitability.
Identify and mitigate project risks while maintaining quality and safety performance.
Client & Stakeholder Relations :
Act as the primary liaison with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Negotiate change orders and document cost / time impacts appropriately.
Build and maintain long-term client relationships to promote repeat business.
Team Leadership :
Supervise and mentor Project Engineers, Field Engineers, and support staff.
Conduct performance evaluations and foster a culture of accountability and teamwork.
Collaborate with estimating, field operations, and senior leadership to ensure project success.
Strategic & Operational Oversight.
Implement company best practices for cost control, scheduling, and safety management.
Ensure compliance with company policies, state / federal regulations, and public works requirements.
Support strategic initiatives that drive operational excellence and client satisfaction.
Education :
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
Experience :
Minimum 15 years of Project Management experience, including 10+ years in heavy civil construction.
Proven record managing Caltrans projects and public works contracts.
Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Track record of completing projects on time and within budget.
Technical Skills :
Proficiency in PlanGrid, Smartsheet, and HCSS HeavyJob.
Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
QSP certification preferred.
Other Requirements :
Willingness to travel within Northern California (up to 100 miles).
Ability to work safely on active job sites and perform field visits as required.
