Duties

During their careers, special agents carry out assignments in investigations and protection, often at multiple duty stations across the U.S. and abroad. Duties include :

  • Providing protection for various protectees.
  • Conducting criminal investigations related to financial obligations of the United States.
  • Planning and implementing security designs for National Special Security Events.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to carry and use a firearm; firearm proficiency is mandatory
  • At least age 21 at application and less than 37 at conditional offer, with exceptions for prior federal law enforcement service or veteran's preference
  • Obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance
  • Uncorrected visual acuity no worse than 20 / 100 binocular; corrected visual acuity 20 / 20 or better
  • Hearing loss not exceeding 25 decibels in relevant ranges
  • Pass drug testing before appointment and randomly during employment
  • Complete 13 weeks of training at FLETC in Glynco, GA, and 18 weeks at James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD
  • Willingness to accept assignments nationwide and overseas
  • Register with the Selective Service System or be exempt
