Overview

Assistant Superintendent in Training – Position Summary : The Assistant Superintendent in Training will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Director of Agronomy to learn all aspects of golf course maintenance and management. This is a hands-on position designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, equipment operation, and crew supervision. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with a passion for the golf industry and a strong desire to grow into a leadership role.

Responsibilities

  • Turfgrass Management : Assist in the daily maintenance of all turf areas, including greens, tees, fairways, and roughs. This includes irrigation troubleshooting, applying fertilizers and pesticides under the direction of the Superintendent.
  • Irrigation Systems : Learn to operate, troubleshoot, and repair the irrigation system. This includes performing routine checks, adjusting watering schedules as needed, and assisting with repairs to pipes, heads, and controllers.
  • Equipment Operation : Safely operate a variety of golf course equipment, including mowers, tractors, and aerators.
  • Crew Supervision : Learn to effectively lead and manage a small team. This includes assigning tasks, ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standard, and promoting a safe and positive work environment.
  • Course Preparation : Assist in daily course setup, including changing pin placements, moving tee markers, and preparing the course for tournament play.
  • Project Management : Participate in special projects, including drainage installation and landscape improvements.
  • Record Keeping : Assist with maintaining accurate records of chemical applications, weather conditions, and daily maintenance tasks.
  • Safety Compliance : Adhere to and promote all safety protocols and procedures, including the safe handling and storage of chemicals.

Qualifications

  • Education : A degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field is preferred. Candidates currently pursuing a degree will also be considered.
  • Skills :
  • Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic knowledge of turfgrass management and an eagerness to learn.
  • Requirements :
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • A pesticide applicator license or a willingness to obtain one is required.
