Overview
As the Process Controls Engineer , you will be responsible for improving plant performance, reliability, and safety through the application of advanced instrumentation, control systems, and automation technologies. This role combines process optimization with project execution, supporting both day-to-day operations and long-term improvements. The engineer will lead and support control system projects from concept through startup, while also providing technical expertise in troubleshooting, training, and system reliability.
Responsibilities
ESH Compliance
- Support site safety and environmental efforts through control system design and monitoring
- Ensure compliance with ES&H and cGMP requirements
- Conduct ES&H project reviews as needed
- Establish / maintain critical alarms and interlocks
Process Control and Optimization
Identify and implement control strategies to improve process stability, efficiency and product qualitySupport and maintain DCS, PLC and HMI systemsSpecify and support installation and maintenance of field instrumentation, final control elements and control hardwareDevelop and maintain alarm management systems and critical interlocksSupport troubleshooting and root cause analysis using control system data and historian toolsEvaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance control capabilitiesIntegrate and manage data analytics and modeling tools to support process insights and continuous improvementAssist in managing and expanding the PI data historianProvide training and mentoring to operations and maintenance personnel on control systems and strategyProject Development and Execution
Lead and support instrumentation and control projects from concept through startupDevelop project scopes, functional definitions and cost estimatesCoordinate with internal teams and external contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective executionEnsure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations and documentation requirementsParticipate in capital planning and control system migration strategiesSkills and Experience
B.S. in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or Controls Engineering preferredStrong understanding of process control principles and industrial automationExperience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLCs, Inductive Automation Ignition HMI, Microsoft Windows-based server environments and virtual machines, field instrumentation and industrial networkingProficiency in programming and scripting (e.g. ladder, structured text, VB, .NET, SQL)Knowledge of field hardware and instrumentationPrevious work in industrial manufacturing environment; chemical manufacturing preferredWorking knowledge of industrial electrical distribution and safety systemsAbility to safety exit the plant in the event of an emergencyWhat Will Set Me Apart
Familiarity with IT hardware and software infrastructure, understanding of cybersecurity principles for industrial control systems, experience with network architecture and system integrationCompensation at ICL
If you are hired at ICL, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and / or experience. We also offer a generous benefits package (more information on benefits listed below).
Salary Range : $76,000 - $131,000
Annual Bonus Target : 5% - 7%, subject to plan provisions.
