Job Overview : The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Nurse provides specialized, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill or injured infants, children, and adolescents in a hospital setting. This role involves continuous monitoring, assessment, and intervention to stabilize patients with life-threatening conditions, complex medical needs, or post-surgical recovery. The PICU Nurse collaborates closely with pediatric intensivists, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans. Key Responsibilities : Assess, monitor, and document the condition of critically ill pediatric patients, including vital signs, neurological status, and hemodynamic stability. Administer medications, fluids, and blood products in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols. Operate and manage advanced life-support equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps, and cardiac monitors. Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures such as blood draws, EKGs, and arterial blood gases. Maintain accurate and timely medical records in compliance with regulatory and hospital standards. Educate and support families regarding their child’s condition, treatment options, and home care requirements. Required Qualifications : AZ RN License / Compact License 2 years of RN Peds Intensive care experience Education Requirements : Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing. BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA) Preferred Qualifications : Children’s hospital experience preferred. Experience at a hospital with a Level III or IV NICU is strongly preferred.
