Job Description
The Drilling Data Analyst will work directly in the field alongside drilling crews and logging teams, processing and interpreting real-time drilling parameters, mud logging data, core / mineral sampling logs, and wellsite monitoring information. Your insights will help the drilling operation quickly detect abnormalities, optimise drilling performance, safeguard safety compliance, and support decision-making. At DataLog, the team prides itself on delivering precision data and actionable insights : “ rock-solid insight .”
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and gather drilling- and logging-related data from the rig site : mud weight, rate of penetration (ROP), torque, drill-string parameters, cuttings / gas samples, and other geo-data.
Entry and validation of real-time data to ensure accuracy and integrity of recording systems.
Work closely with geologists, mud-logging technicians and drilling engineers to interpret data, identify trends, and alert the team to anomalies (e.g., kick potential, stuck pipe, formation changes, drilling hazards).
Prepare field reports and summaries of drilling log data, presenting key findings to supervisors and the operations team.
Assist with setup and calibration of logging instruments and sensors; ensure data-capture equipment is functioning correctly and data streams are reliable.
Maintain strict compliance with safety and site-operational protocols, including rig-floor conditions, sample collection, logging system integrity and mandatory training.
Participate in shift rotations, often working long hours, nights and weekends as drilling activities demand.
Contribute to continuous improvement of data systems and workflows by recommending enhancements or identifying inefficient processes.
Requirements
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences, Petroleum Engineering, Data Analytics, or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience : Previous field experience in drilling, mud logging, or logging-while-drilling (LWD) is strongly preferred.
Strong analytical skills : ability to interpret complex drilling and geological data, identify anomalies, and produce actionable insights.
Excellent technical acuity, including familiarity with drilling parameters and logging tools (e.g., mud logging units, mass spectrometry analyzers) — DataLog uses advanced analyzers like the Epsilon DGMS140.
Good communication skills : ability to work in a high-pressure, remote field environment, liaise effectively with rig personnel and logging teams.
Physical and logistical readiness : ability to work on remote sites, lift and move equipment (e.g., minimum of 50 lbs) and be available for rotational shift schedules.
Commitment to safety, attention to detail and reliability in field conditions.
Benefits
Competitive compensation with field-differentials for remote or rotational work.
Full-time field-based role with well-defined career path : at DataLog, the “GeoVision University” programme supports growth into geosteering, staff geologist or operations roles.
Health, dental and vision benefits for full-time employees.
Opportunity to work across major U.S. drilling basins, acquiring valuable field and technical experience in high-impact drilling data services
