Dental Assistant
Finger Lakes Community Health (FLCH) was founded in 1989 with an original mission of serving the region's agricultural workers by linking individuals to area resources and providing essential health services. In 2009 the organization expanded to become a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), serving patients of all incomes, ethnicities and walks of life. Over the last decade, FLCH has grown to provide medical, dental, and behavioral health services to over 28,000 patients at eight health centers. With over 200 employees we strive to provide high-quality and innovative health care services to the Finger Lakes Region.
The Dental Assistant (DA) provides quality care to patients by performing a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties for dental services. This position supports the dentist and other staff through preparation of patients and patient information.
Main Responsibilities :
- Exam Room Preparation
- Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and operatory following dental and clinical infection control procedures
- Prepare instruments, materials, and equipment needed for upcoming patient visits
- Chair-side Assistance
- Handle supplies and instruments as requested by dentist in visit
- Take all patient x-rays as directed by dentist
- Dental Record Maintenance
- Collect and document patient health history in the electronic health record system
- Chart dental care services in patient record
- Address telephone encounters and actions in the electronic health record system per Finger Lakes Community Health policies and procedures
- Schedule patient appointments
- Patient Education
- Inform patients of appropriate oral hygiene maintenance, including tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling
- Advise patients of oral care instructions following operations or other procedures
- Inventory Management
- Record daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedule updates
- Assess dental supply inventory bi-weekly and order supplies from dental vendor when needed
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications :
High School Diploma or equivalentCPR Certification Required - can be provided upon hirePrior experience a plus, but not requiredThe ability to work flexible hours some evenings are requiredA valid New York State driver's license in compliance with FLCH drivers' policyPhysical Requirements :
Must be able to hear and communicate with clients and staff via phone, web media, and in person.Must be able to lift up to 40 lbsMust be able to sit for extended periods of timeMust be able to kneel, crawl, or bend into awkward spacesOSHA Level 1
