Payroll Manager

The Payroll Manager is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees across multiple U.S. states, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role oversees end-to-end payroll operations, manages relationships with third-party vendors, and partners with HR, Finance, and Legal to ensure all pay practices are compliant, efficient, and aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities :
- Payroll Operations
- Manage biweekly and off cycle payrolls across multiple U.S. state, including exempt and non-exempt rotational employees
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, including wage and hour, pay, and tax regulations
- Maintain and reconcile payroll records, ensuring accuracy in employee compensation, deductions, benefits, and tax withholdings.
- Prepare and support payroll audits, reconciliations, and year-end reporting (W-2, 1099, etc.).
- Multi-State Oversight
- Serve as the subject matter expert on multi-state payroll tax, compliance, and reporting requirements.
- Stay current on legislative and regulatory changes impacting payroll and implement necessary process updates.
- Ensure proper tax registrations and setup, jurisdiction reporting, and compliance for employees working in multiple states.
- Process Improvement & Systems Management
- Evaluate and optimize payroll processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and employee experience (UKG experience strongly preferred)
- Maintain integrations between payroll, HR, timekeeping, and vendor systems.
- Compliance & Controls
- Maintain strong internal controls to ensure accurate and compliant payroll processing (SOX experience preferred).
- Partner with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure payroll practices align with changing legislation and company policies.
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and develop payroll staff; provide coaching, training, and performance feedback.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll inquiries.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Benefits, Finance, and Legal to ensure alignment and data integrity.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field required.7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-state payroll.Strong understanding of U.S. payroll tax and wage and hour laws.Proven experience leading payroll operations or a payroll team in a complex, multi-entity organization.Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality.What You Will Love About Us :
