We are seeking Employee Benefits Underwriting Consultants that will be responsible for underwriting new or renewal business under 2000 lives for group employee benefits product lines. In this role, you will apply standard underwriting principles and procedures to evaluate, rate and negotiate price on new business.
The Opportunity :
This role will involve evaluating, pricing and proposing rate and strategy on small to mid-market Dental, Vision, Life, Optional Life, STD or LTD business within stated authority limits.
How You Will Contribute :
- Evaluate, price and propose rate and strategy on small to mid-market Dental, Vision, Life, Optional Life, STD or LTD business within stated authority limits.
- Perform underwriting functions associated with manual and experience rating.
- Analyze information on industry, past claim history, financial conditions and other criteria.
- Evaluate, price and recommend proposal terms and strategy on business outside stated authority limits.
- Manage assigned workload to meet internal productivity and time service standards as well as field office priorities.
- Understand and articulate sales region specific strategies and trends to drive sales and renewal results.
- Independent decision making on fundamental problems within specific rules and utilizing general underwriting guidelines.
- Effectively communicate decisions or additional requirements and rating results to the assigned offices.
- Resource for other underwriters and the field.
- Analyze information on industry, demographics, and other standard criteria.
- Determine level of risk based on well-established guidelines.
- Quote appropriate rates to field agents or brokers, maintaining an individual sales office assignment.
- Support the identification and development of best practices, work flows and procedures.
- Build effective relationships with field distribution.
- Partner effectively within the underwriting team and across other departments.
- Participate in special projects as business needs require.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial tracking.
- Adhere to quality, authority and documentation guidelines.
What You Will Bring :
Ability to work with a diverse range of people.BA / BS degree preferred.2 - 4 years group insurance experience, some underwriting experience preferred.Proficiency in Excel.Above average math aptitude.Exceptional customer service skills.Ability to make quality risk decisions.Strong interpersonal and written / verbal communication skills.Ability to effectively negotiate / be persuasive.Highly organized with ability to manage multiple tasks.Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.Salary : $60,000-$90,000.
