The Global Technology Innovation team at Baltimore Aircoil Company (BAC), headquartered in Jessup, MD, drives the identification and scale-up of advanced technologies into commercial innovations that support BAC's mission to reinvent cooling for a sustainable world. We focus on industrial and commercial heat rejection, thermal energy storage, thermal management, water treatment and monitoring, and carbon capture technologies. We are seeking a Senior Engineer, R&D, to help develop and scale technologies that deliver lasting sustainable value. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Technology Leadership & Execution
  • Lead or support technology projects to evaluate and develop heat transfer systems for BAC products.
  • Develop and present comprehensive project proposals, detailed action plans, and progress updates to both technical and non-technical audiences, including BAC's executive team.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of BAC's heat transfer technologies and guide Product Development (NPI) teams in selecting and applying the most appropriate solutions.
  • Act as a working leader : drive project execution, manage teams, schedules, budgets, and communicate with functional leaders and executive sponsors.
  • Testing & Analysis
  • Perform prototyping, experimentation, and data collection and analysis in lab and field environments.
  • Design and assemble test apparatus, data acquisition systems, and control systems; develop and execute test plans.
  • Conduct and document benchtop to full-scale testing assignments; analyze data, synthesize results, develop numerical models, and present findings.
  • Interface with Test Lab, Support Systems, Core Technology, New Product Introduction, and Advanced Manufacturing Technology teams.
  • Participate in planning and review meetings.
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts and BAC's global network of external technology partners.
  • Provide technical expertise across BAC and contribute to cross-functional innovation initiatives.

NATURE AND SCOPE

The Senior Engineer, R&D will report to the Global Engineering Manager, Heat Transfer Systems. As part of the Global Engineering and Manufacturing Strategy Department, the Senior Engineer, R&D will have frequent interaction with the Core Technology, Support Systems, Test Lab, New Product Introduction, and Advanced Manufacturing Technology groups within BAC, and external technology partners outside of BAC. The position will have no direct reports.

Knowledge & Skills

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field.
  • 6+ years of progressively complex engineering experience in R&D or NPD environments.
  • Professional experience in heat and mass exchanger design or related disciplines (e.g., heat transfer, fluid flow, coupled heat and mass transfer, fluid dynamics).
  • Proven experience working in cross-functional teams across multiple departments.
  • Required Skills

  • Ability to develop testing specifications, execute tests, analyze data, and build numerical models.
  • Proficiency in CAD, FEA, CFD, and applied coding.
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, psychrometrics, and heat transfer.
  • Hands-on experience with experimental design, fabrication, and setup of test fixtures and control systems.
  • Ability to synthesize and present results to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and informal leadership skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and proactively address risks and impediments.
  • Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Inventor, Siemens NX, and Ansys Fluent.
  • Competency in end-unit thermal performance, testing methodologies, simulation modeling, and heat exchanger component modeling in evaporative heat transfer environments.
  • BAC Hiring Compensation Range $84,300- $144,500
