Pike Place Market Background :
The Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority (PDA) is a non-profit public corporation chartered by the City of Seattle in 1973 to develop, own and operate most of the properties in the nine-acre Pike Place Market Historical District. The PDA is landlord to 170 craftspeople, 120 farmers, 275 residential tenants, and approximately 225 year-round commercial businesses in 12 buildings.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Marketing & Public Relations Manager will oversee facets of the Marketing department including community engagement, media relations, Market events and programming in the Market historic district. Develop and manage strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, partners and groups to benefit PDA programming and marketing goals. Participates in other marketing efforts that promote Market businesses and events through writing, copy editing, project management and logistical support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strong PR experience that will help you build and maintain a positive public image for the Pike Place Market and share the Markets story. Create compelling media content, from press releases to targeted pitches that shape public opinion of the Pike Place Market and increase awareness of our brand.
Must have a strong writing background as you will assist with copy writing and editing. You will develop written content for a wide variety of Market programs including but not limited to, farmers markets, craft markets, special events, visitor guides, and advertising campaigns.
Respond and engage with news media from around the globe, arrange visits, schedule interviews, educate and provide materials to reporters, editors, writers from various media.
Work with Marketing staff to develop and distribute promotional materials.
Plan and coordinate Pike Place Markets special events and promotions, working closely with PDA staff, consultants, government agencies, vendors and others to manage event logistics and marketing. Secure all necessary event permits.
Assist Director with budget planning and implementation. Analyze monthly variance report and provide written comments for Director and Accounting.
Source and Promote event rentals such as corporate meetings, community programs and internal promotions to generate a new line of business for internal and external customers.
Recruit and organize vendors for Pike Place Market-sponsored events and programs.
Build and manage a volunteer base to support the successful execution of a robust event lineup
Serve as a primary staff contact during Market events and promotions, ensuring that events and promotions run smoothly. Prioritize customer and tenant needs during events and help solve or mitigate problems that may arise.
Ensure all PDA staff and merchants are informed and aware of all Market events, and assist the events department with newsletters, collateral material, press releases, and other communications as they relate to events.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Must be available to work occasional weekends for signature Market events
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Knowledge of Windows based Computers, Familiar and Beginner level expertise of Adobe Creative Suite (comfortable with Photoshop and Illustrator at minimum).Canva, Microsoft Proficient (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Experience with Mail Chimp, WordPress, and Social Media Platforms.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelors degree in communications, Public Relations or related field required.Knowledge of a variety of marketing related software programs such as InDesign. Must have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills and the ability to deal effectively with diverse groups of people.
Work Environment and Physical Demands :
Work is performed in an office setting which is non-smoking and is subject to temperature variances due to western exposure and non-centralized heating system.Work environment is fast-paced and requires the ability to work under pressure with little direction.Position requires the ability to use computers, calculator, e-mail, fax machine, and telephone. Position requires an energetic person who can get along with all types of people and understand the human condition of tenants in the market. Position requires the ability to conduct interviews throughout the Market, including use of stairs and entry to restricted or confined spaces, and requires the individual to be ambulatory.Some flexibility in working hours is required to complete time-sensitive projects or attend meetings that may extend to 6 : 30 p.m. and may involve weekend work and outdoor activities
Salary Scale : Scale placement is DOE and qualifications (Wage will be pro-rated for 20-25 hours per week)
