We are seeking a Journeyman Technician who installs piping systems for geothermal, chiller, and cooling tower applications. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational capabilities while ensuring project specifications and safety standards are consistently met, and will oversee all aspects of work and guide the team to job completion.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.

Hours are Monday through Thursday, 4 days a week, 7 am to 5 : 45 pm. Typically, 40 hours per week. Start and end times may vary per job, and overtime may be expected. This position may require long hours and occasional weekend work.

Travel -

Travel is primarily local during the business day; out-of-area and overnight travel is expected. Extensive travel may be required.

Essential Functions :

  • Install a horizontal and vertical geothermal ground loop system (open or closed loop)
  • Lay, fuse, and assemble polyethylene piping in trenches or boreholes per design specifications
  • Plan and execute pipe layouts; cut and drill boreholes as needed; secure piping to structures
  • Connect geothermal piping to mechanical systems, including heat pumps and distribution units
  • Inspect, pressure test, and flush systems to ensure performance and integrity
  • Operate and maintain tools and heavy equipment such as trenchers, excavators, and fusion machines
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Maintain, repair, and replace piping components as needed
  • Transport tools, materials, and personnel to and from job sites using company vehicles
  • Supervise and train helpers; document performance and ensure safety compliance
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and job site cleanliness; complete vehicle inspections and reports
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and environmental regulations
  • Maintain accurate records, complete administrative tasks, and submit required reports
  • Deliver high-quality workmanship and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Attend meetings and participate in ongoing training and development
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities :

  • Pipefitting, fusion, and assembly of polyethylene piping systems
  • Installation of horizontal and vertical geothermal loop systems
  • Pressure testing, flushing, and system inspection
  • Operation of trenchers, excavators, and fusion machines
  • Use of hand and power tools for cutting, boring, and securing piping
  • Maintenance and repair of piping systems and components
  • Equipment transport and vehicle operation (including trailers)
  • Recordkeeping, report completion, and use of job-related documentation tools
  • Competencies :

  • Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the field.
  • Valid state Journeyman License
  • OSHA-10
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Ability to obtain certification for job-specific equipment from qualified trainers
  • Preferred Education and Experience

  • Over 5 years of experience in the field
  • Completion of a trade school or technical program in HVAC, plumbing or geothermal systems.
  • IGSHPA Certification (International Ground Source Heat Pump Association)
  • Bilingual, Spanish / English
  • OSHA-30
  • CDL License
  • The role is physically demanding and requires the ability to :

  • Lift, push, pull, or carry objects for up to 50 pounds
  • Stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, bend, twist, and kneel for extended periods
  • Use abdominal and lower back muscles for sustained physical activity
  • Maintain stamina and endurance throughout the workday
  • Demonstrate excellent manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination
  • Quickly and precisely adjust controls on machines or vehicles
  • Respond rapidly to visual or auditory signals
  • Keep hands and arms steady while manipulating tools or materials
