Product Engineer – Vehicle Design & Development (Automotive / Conversion) – Location : Winamac, Indiana (Onsite). Employment Type : Full-Time with Benefits. Relocation : Partial Relocation Available. Work Authorization : US Citizen, Green Card, or TN Visa required.
General Purpose
We are seeking a Product Engineer to lead the design and development of new wheelchair-accessible vehicles from concept through launch. This role covers the design, engineering, and integration of all vehicle systems while ensuring alignment with cost, quality, and timing objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineer, design, and develop new vehicle conversions using CAD (Inventor).
- Design complex systems including mechanisms, suspensions, structures, doors, and liftgates.
- Plan and execute design, procurement, assembly, and validation activities aligned with APQP processes.
- Ensure designs meet budget, cost, and quality targets.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Portfolio teams.
- Recommend low-cost alternatives, standardization, and design improvements.
- Build and engineer prototype vehicles.
- Participate and lead design / peer reviews to ensure compliance with requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong background in mechanism design, integration, and tolerance analysis.Knowledge of vehicle engineering, structural design, sheet metal, welding, and LEAN principles.Experience with closures, suspensions, fuel, exhaust, cooling, and braking systems.Skilled in FEA, DFMEA / PFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and 8D problem-solving.Proficiency in Inventor, AutoCAD, Vault, Epicor (ERP), and MS Office.Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.Hands-on prototype fabrication and welding experience (preferred).Screening Questions
