Anchored by a first-rate marine laboratory, the DeFelice Marine Center, LUMCON is embedded in Louisianas dynamic wetland environment and conveniently located on a gateway to the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico. From this facility, LUMCON operates a world-class fleet of research vessels unmatched in the Gulf of Mexico. In 2023, LUMCON expanded its programs through the opening of a maritime research and outreach facility in Houma.

POSITION OVERVIEW : LUMCON is hiring a United States Coast Guard licensed National Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED). This position is under the general supervision of the ships Captain, and direct supervision of the ships Chief Engineer. The successful applicant will be employed aboard the Research Vessel POINT SUR. The position will be domiciled at the Port of Gulfport, MS.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

• USCG licensed National Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED).
• High school education and / or equivalent.
• Pass U.S. Coast Guard (DOT) screening for Chemical Drug and Alcohol.
• U.S. Coast Guard Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW95).
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing using standard office software applications.
• Ability and willingness to go to sea for extended periods.
• Capable of lifting 50 lbs., climb stairs and ladders and work during inclement weather.
