Description :

The Controller leads all accounting and finance activity for this growing franchise and its related entities. The role oversees the Accounting team, its processes, and its tools to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and utility of the organization’s financial records, reports, and analyses. The successful candidate will provide financial acumen and influence in decision-making processes across the company. This individual is a critical thought partner as the organization works to addresses the challenges inherent in a growing business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Lead, manage and mentor team members working in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, ticket accounting, fixed asset, and month and year-end close.
  • Oversee the preparation of timely monthly reporting packages that include budget to actual results at both the consolidated and department levels and deliver the related reports on a predictable and consistent schedule.
  • Oversee the administration of the Company’s payroll and variable compensation plans for its salaried and commissioned employees, ensuring the features of the plans are consistent with Company’s recordkeeping structures, can be efficiently administered, and support the Company’s business goals.
  • Assess the adequacy of the Company’s financial infrastructure and internal controls, researching, creating, revising and maintaining processes and tools that will serve the current and future needs of the organization.
  • Lead the company’s compliance with its external reporting requirements, including its annual GAAP audit, debt compliance, and its routine reporting to the WNBA.
  • Partner with teams and functions across the organization to incorporate financial history and relevant metrics into its business analyses and decision-making processes.
  • Together with outside tax counsel, lead the Company’s federal, state and local tax planning and compliance activities.
  • Liaise with and leverage external subject matter experts, including the WNBA, banking, accounting, legal, tax, and insurance.
  • Oversee the financial activities for the Company’s related foundation, ensuring the objectives determined by its Board are executed, the entity’s 501(c)3 status is maintained, and its activities are adequately segregated and reported from the Company’s commercial endeavors.
  • Oversee the financial activities for the Company’s related for-profit entity, ensuring accurate recordkeeping and financial reporting.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Administer the Company’s investment policy, ensuring the Company’s cash reserves are securely managed and generate a return commensurate with market rates and the Company’s risk tolerance.
  • Lead the company’s compliance with the financial elements of the WNBA Collective Bargaining Agreement(s), to which it is a party.
  • Requirements : Education

  • Bachelor’s degrees, or equivalent required.
  • Related Experience

  • Five to ten years’ experience in a combination of public and / or private accounting roles.
  • Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations

  • Certified Public Accountant, or equivalent experience, preferred.
  • Certificates, expertise, or classroom attendance related to Microsoft Dynamics Business Central a plus.

  • Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Advanced competence with Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency with Dynamics 365 Business Central, advanced skills a plus.
  • Proficiency with a applicable business applications, including payroll, expense reimbursement, Ticketmaster, inventory management, and others that may be selected in future.
  • Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is infrequently required to lift and / or move up to 5 pounds. The employee is regularly required to use hands for typing, sorting and moving documents. Occasionally required to climb ladders, sit, stoop, kneel, squat, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
