Public Works And Transportation Maintenance Technician
Responsible for a wide-variety of public works and transportation maintenance initiatives related to storm water management, street maintenance and repairs, traffic operations, and streetlight operations.
Essential Job Functions :
- Ability to operate a tandem dump truck, two-ton dump truck, asphalt roller, concrete grinder, mechanical post-hole digger, mechanical trencher, sign installation equipment, thermoplastic markings machine, crack seal applicator, and related pneumatic and hand tools in repairing or replacing concrete (sidewalks, curbs, drainage structures), asphalt crack sealing and patching, sign installation / maintenance, pavement marking installation / maintenance, signal construction / maintenance, removing debris from creeks and channels and installation / maintenance of streetlights.
- Ability to understand and interpret TxDOT, TxMUTCD, and TEEX rules, regulations, plan, and guidelines; and to place and utilize all related safety devices per code and / or design.
- Ability to serve as flag-person to divert traffic safely around construction sites.
- Ability to service, clean, and maintain equipment, perform walk-around inspections, make minor repairs and service fluids, fill out equipment log-book, and maintain tools and equipment per manufacturer's specifications and guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :Knowledge of operations and maintenance of dump trucks, rollers, skid steer, loader, emulsion distributors, grinders, post-hole diggers, trenchers, thermoplastic applicators, and related hand tools and additional small equipment. Knowledge of industry related hazards.Knowledge of TxDOT safety rules and guidelines. Knowledge and understanding of the Texas Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TxMUTCD) and TEEX guidelines.Skilled in performing physical activities relating to standard methods of : construction, maintenance, repairs, fabrication and installation of streets, drainage, traffic and streetlight related infrastructure and facilities including concrete and asphalt placement and finishing.Skilled in safely operating light equipment necessary to complete streets, drainage, traffic, and streetlight related tasks / duties.Skilled in effectively communicating orally and in writing with citizens and staff.Skilled in maintaining accurate records and reports.Ability to learn standard safety practices including division SOPs, JSAs, and MSDs.Ability to operate a motorized vehicle and light equipment. Ability to understand specialized work management systems including CarteGraph software products.Ability to tolerate noise, rough movement and other discomforts created by equipment.Ability to operate a communications radio, calculator, and copy machine. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, maps, and / or written instructions. Ability to kneel, stoop, crawl, climb, etc.Ability to work in an outdoor environment subject to adverse weather conditions, dust and dirt.Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to, driving, seeing, sitting, and writing.Ability to carry out operations according to set procedures or sequences. Ability to lift or exert forces up to 50 lbs.Ability to operate a commercial motorized vehicle.Qualifying Education and Experience :
