General Description :

"Ironworkers" place and install iron or steel beams, girders, joists, columns, metal decking, bridging, and other steel related materials to form

buildings, bridges, and other structures. They also repair and renovate older buildings and structures. The task is physically demanding and

requires the majority of work to be performed in outdoor environments exposing them to varying year-round weather conditions.

Reporting :

This position is hired by and reports directly to the "Steel Erection General Superintendent," but also reports directly to the "Steel Erection

Foreman" assigned to the particular project the "Ironworker" is working on.

Tasks, Abilities and Skills :

• Read specifications and blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
• Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members, using plumb bobs, lasers equipment, transits, and / or levels.
• Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors.
• Hoist steel members into place using cranes or other equipment by means of proper signaling.
• Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding into place.
• Field assemble metal parts such as steel frames, columns, beams, and girders according to blueprints and / or instructions from

supervisors.

Travel and Work Hours :

Ironworkers shall possess a reliable manner of transportation to and from the construction site but may be able to ride in a company vehicle.

Most of the travel is day travel, but certain jobs require staying out of town. At minimum, Ironworkers are required to work a normal forty (40)

hour work week but may be required to work additional overtime and / or Saturdays and Sundays if required to maintain the project schedule.
