Overview
A Global Real Estate and Engineering firm is seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to join its Commissioning & Building Analytics team. The successful candidate will lead and support mechanical and plumbing commissioning for mission-critical data center projects, ensuring systems operate efficiently and meet design intent. This role requires strong technical expertise, field experience, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute commissioning processes and deliverables per ASHRAE, CSA, and LEED guidelines.
- Lead inspections, functional performance testing, and system validation for HVAC, plumbing, and related systems.
- Review design drawings, specifications, and submittals for commissioning compliance.
- Develop and manage commissioning plans, specifications, and project documentation.
- Conduct field-based commissioning activities, including start-up verification, functional and integrated systems testing.
- Liaise with contractors, engineers, and facilities teams to coordinate commissioning execution.
- Chair commissioning meetings and maintain issue logs to track progress and resolutions.
- Prepare and manage SOPs, MOPs, and system manuals for project handover.
- Perform and analyze testing data using calibrated mechanical equipment (flow hoods, anemometers, data loggers, etc.).
- Support development and review of vendor training for installed systems.
- Ensure all commissioning activities meet contractual and quality requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline (ABET-accredited preferred).Minimum 10 years of mechanical engineering or field-testing experience, with at least 5 years in building commissioning.LEED AP certification required; CEM, CBCP, or CPMP designations preferred.Proficient in commissioning HVAC, chilled water plants, boilers, air-handling units, DOAS, thermal storage, and automation systems.Strong data management, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency in MS Project, Word, and Excel.Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet tight deadlines.Willingness to travel up to 50% across the U.S.; international travel may be required.Preferred Experience
Professional Engineer (PE) or PMP certification.Experience in consultancy, facility management, or data center operations.Knowledge of electrical testing (PQM, thermography, megger, etc.) is an asset.Multilingual proficiency (Spanish or Portuguese) preferred.Field-based role supporting large-scale data center and mission-critical projects.Collaborative, hands-on environment focused on technical excellence and project delivery.Position details
