Interior Design Program

in the

School of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS)

at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure track assistant / associate professor position. This is a full-time position with a nine-month academic year appointment with the possibility of summer teaching. All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Texas State, a Hispanic-Serving Institution with Emerging Research status, is located in central Texas between two large metropolitan areas, Austin and San Antonio. The Interior Design Program enrolls approximately 500 majors with ten full-time and many part-time faculty members serving the program. The program is accredited through the Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). Graduates are qualified for careers helping others improve interior environments while expressing their own creative abilities. Texas States interior design students gain skills and knowledge in ideation and concept development, sketching, drafting, space planning, stylistic history, design theory, materials, building systems, life safety codes, and business practices. Graduates are academically prepared to take the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ) examination that must be passed to register as an interior designer in Texas and many other states.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses, supervising design projects and portfolio development, developing and revising curricula to meet accreditation standards, conducting and publishing high-quality peer-reviewed scholarly research / creative activities, and engaging in appropriate levels of service to the school, college, university and to the profession.

Required Qualifications :

Assistant Professor :

Earned graduate degree in interior design or a closely related field (e.g., M.F.A., M.I.D., M.Arch., M.S., or M.A.)

Ability to teach interior design studios and lecture classes across the program curricula

Demonstrated ability to engage in scholarly activity and / or creative works

Proficiency in design-related software, such as Revit, AutoCAD, Sketch-up, and Adobe Creative Suite.

Associate Professor :

Earned graduate degree in interior design or a closely related field (e.g., M.F.A., M.I.D., M.Arch., M.S., or M.A.)

Established research or creative scholarship agenda with a recent record of peer-reviewed publications or recognized / published creative scholarship

Extensive experience teaching undergraduate and / or graduate students

Experience mentoring undergraduate or graduate student research

To be eligible for hire at the rank of Associate Professor, the candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as defined by the school. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and school- established criteria.

Preferred Qualifications :

Assistant Professor :

Doctorate in interior design or a closely related field

At least one degree in interior design or architecture

College-level teaching experience in interior design or a related discipline Professional experience in residential, healthcare, and / or commercial interior design practice

National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certification Design-related Certification (e.g., LEED AP or WELL AP certification, and / or professional licensure

Active involvement in professional organizations

Demonstrated ability to engage in scholarly activity and / or creative works

Demonstrated ability or potential to secure external funding

Associate Professor :

Doctorate in interior design or a closely related field Professional experience in residential, healthcare, and / or commercial interior design practice

National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certification

LEED AP or WELL AP certification, and / or professional licensure

Leadership experience in professional organizations

Record of internal and / or external funding as PI or Co-PI

Recognition through teaching, research, and / or service awards

Proficiency in design-related software, such as Revit, AutoCAD, Sketch-up, and Adobe Creative Suite

Administrative experience in higher education (e.g., program coordinator, CIDA coordinator, etc.)
