Job Summary :
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist for a night shift travel assignment at a reputable hospital in Johnson City, NY. This role involves performing various phlebotomy tasks and specimen collection procedures across inpatient, outpatient, and off-site locations (e.g., Skilled Nursing Facilities, Pre-Admission Testing). Candidates must be comfortable working independently, rotating through multiple responsibilities, and delivering compassionate patient care.
Key Responsibilities :
- Perform venipuncture (venous & capillary), 24-hour urine collection, random urine collection, H. pylori breath test, and glucose tolerance testing.
- Ensure accurate patient identification and appropriate specimen collection techniques.
- Understand fasting / non-fasting requirements for various tests.
- Select age-appropriate venipuncture equipment and assess best collection sites.
- Perform test order entry in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and ensure proper documentation and coding.
- Obtain patient consent, prior authorizations, and ABNs as needed.
- Manage STAT, routine, and timed draw prioritization according to guidelines.
- Provide outpatient front desk / reception coverage, managing patient flow and wait times.
- Respond to and assist patients courteously, embodying Service Excellence.
- Observe patients during procedures and report complications to clinical staff immediately.
- Execute downtime procedures when HIS / LIS systems are offline and support recovery processes.
Qualifications : Required :
Minimum 3 months of phlebotomy experience in an acute care (hospital) settingHigh school diploma or equivalentExperience with EHR systems and test order entryKnowledge of lab specimen processing procedures and medical necessity requirementsPreferred :
Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Training Program or Medical Office Assistant (MOA) trainingAbility to perform EKGs (required if assigned to Pre-Admission Testing area)Additional Requirements :
