Radio Communication System Technician

Responsible for installation, programming, aligning, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance for both the 800 MHz system and P25 subscriber mobile, portable and control station radios statewide.

Provide technical support, diagnosis solutions, provisioning and programming assistance to radio users, vendors, contractors, etc.

The employee in this position is responsible for the installation, diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and proper operations of the radio communication system equipment state wide and assists Kansas Department of Transportation Radio as assigned. Additionally, this employee is responsible for helping provide technical support, diagnosis solutions, provisioning and programming assistance to radio users, vendors, contractors, and other radio technicians operating or maintaining the radio system. Responsible for programming, installing, troubleshooting, aligning, software / firmware installations / upgrades, repairing, and maintaining the components of the radio system and ensuring proper operation. These components include a variety of complex equipment including the following : 800 MHz P25 trunk and conventional radio equipment (transmitters, receivers, site controllers), networking equipment (site routers, service aggregation routers, ethernet circuits, LAN switches and Local Access Networks), receive pre-amp multi-coupler systems, transmit combiners, alarm equipment and RF and AC lightning protection equipment. Responsible for installation, programming, aligning, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of the P25 subscriber mobile, portable and control station radios used by the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas Department of Transportation as assigned.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements : Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age. Must successfully pass a prescribed hearing and vision test, prior to employment. Hearing must be correctable to a range that will allow normal radio and telephone conversation with field units. Vision must be correctable to a range that will allow reading of computer display terminals, maps and printouts quickly and accurately. Applicants must be free of felony convictions. Must submit to and pass a thorough background investigation. Must submit to and pass a fingerprint-based check. Ability to sit for long periods of time, perform repetitive motions with one or more extremity, and reach and move in confined areas.
