Registered Resp Therapist

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB :

The Registered Respiratory Therapist will have an understanding of hazards and complications of all therapies as well as a sound understanding of the physiologic changes that may be encountered with the administration of the procedures. They will also have a sound understanding of all respiratory disease pathology and the appropriate therapy that will aid in the patient's comfort and cure. Tact and good medical ethics are essential in dealing with patients, medical staff, nursing staff and co-workers. Professional conduct will be expected at all times. They will administer respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system, under supervision of Physician and by prescription.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

Education and / or Experience : Employee must have obtained the RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) credential by passing the exam given by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Maintain current license to practice Respiratory Care issued by the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care. This will be source verified yearly by Human Resources Department.

Communication Skills : Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. He / she must possess ability to write routine reports and correspondence. He / she must be able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability : He / she must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer / Typing / Mathematical Skills : He / she must possess the ability to draw and interpret bar graphs. He / she must possess the basic working knowledge of Microsoft Windows.

The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Initial Orientation

Employee will receive information regarding OSHA / Universal Precautions during Employment Orientation.

Continuing Education regarding OSHA / Universal Precautions will be provided in accordance with the policy entitled Educational Guidelines.

Department Specific :

Departmental Orientation and associated competency check-offs

American Heart Association Basic Life Support is mandatory

American Heart Association ACLS, PALS and NRP classes are strongly recommended

All training or testing deemed mandatory for clinical personnel by hospital policy
