BrightStar Care is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of innovative, secure, and scalable digital health solutions. This role is ideal for an experienced builder who is passionate about healthcare technology and evolving technology solutions. As a key member of our engineering leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our technology strategy, architecture, standards, and priorities while providing technical leadership across multiple engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership Across Teams : Serve as a senior technical leader across multiple engineering teams, driving architectural decisions, aligning technical direction with strategic goals, and ensuring consistency in implementation.
- Define Architecture and Standards : Establish and maintain architectural standards and patterns through collaboration with Product and Engineering teams to translate the growing organizational needs into scalable, secure and compliant technical platforms.
- Cloud-Native Development : Architect and build distributed systems and microservices optimized for Cloud deployment using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), containerization (Docker / Kubernetes), and serverless technologies.
- Mentorship & Growth : Teach, mentor, and advise engineers across teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Engineering Practices : Define and advocate for engineering best practices and processes, including champion of CI / CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability practices to ensure high-quality and efficient delivery.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.EXPERIENCE
10+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years in a Principal or Staff Engineer role.SKILLS / ABILITIES
Backend Engineering expertise : Deep expertise in .NET and Azure Cloud services (e.g., App Services, Azure Functions, AKS).Frontend Engineering expertise : Strong experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue) and mobile development (native or cross-platform).Proven track record of building cloud-native applications using microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Bicep, Terraform).Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system integration.Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across teams.Optional Qualifications
Experience in Healthcare technology, including in clinical provider environments and patient engagement platforms.Familiarity with healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR).Experience with observability tools and performance tuning in production environments.WORKING CONDITIONS
Travel to the Bannockburn IL office on a monthly basis.Work environment – Fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic work environment with a focus on teamwork and meeting tight deadlines.Hours – 8am to 5pm; after hours work as needed, emergency on-call for security incidents.
