Job Description

Vail Health Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse for its Operating Room team. This 26-week assignment offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic, patient-centered environment, providing compassionate care for surgical patients and their families. The RN will be responsible for overseeing patient flow, assisting with surgeries, administering medications, and collaborating with healthcare teams to deliver high-quality outcomes. The role requires a proactive, independent nurse who is committed to safety, advocacy, and exceptional patient service.

Key Responsibilities :

Manage daily patient flow to ensure safety, efficiency, and patient satisfaction.

Triage incoming patient requests promptly and effectively.

Educate patients and families about procedures, care plans, and wellness strategies.

Delegate duties appropriately in accordance with Colorado statutes.

Conduct thorough healthcare assessments, prioritize needs, and employ critical thinking.

Handle high-volume patient communication regarding medications, information, and assistance.

Administer medications, perform treatments, and assist during procedures with strict adherence to safety protocols.

Coordinate care among physicians, departments, and facilities to optimize patient outcomes.

Work independently with minimal supervision while ensuring compliance with hospital policies.

Utilize Relationship-Based Care principles to advocate for patient safety and preferences.

Uphold a Just Culture and organizational values at all times.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Maintain strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications & Requirements

Licenses & Certifications :

Active Colorado Registered Nurse License or valid compact state license is required.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.

Preferred Education & Experience :

Education : Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (RN).

Experience : Minimum of one year operating room experience in a healthcare setting, demonstrating proficiency in perioperative nursing care.

Skills & Competencies :

Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.

Ability to triage and prioritize patient needs effectively.

Exceptional communication skills, including handling high telephone volumes with professionalism.

Competency in administering medications, performing treatments, and assisting with procedures.

Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards.

Adept at working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Ability to adapt to rotating shifts and work in a fast-paced environment.

Computer literacy skills, with the ability to learn and navigate online systems within 90 days.
