Role Overview
The Director of Dredge Bidding leads Curtin Maritime's estimating and proposal function for dredging and marine construction projects. This role is responsible for managing the full life cycle of bid developmentfrom pre-solicitation research through compliant submissionand ensuring all bid deliverables are accurate, timely, and strategically positioned. The Director oversees the coordination of cross-functional subject matter experts, manages timelines, ensures compliance with RFP requirements, and presents bid strategies and outcomes to senior leadership. This role requires strong leadership, technical, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to align competitive pricing with Curtin's operational strengths.
Key Responsibilities
- Bid Leadership & Management
- Own the full bid process, ensuring timely and compliant submissions.
- Manage all bid deliverables, including : Project Overview, Geotechnical Data & Analysis, Production Data & Methodology, Cost Package & Pricing Strategy, Bid History & Market Positioning, Competitor Analysis, Strategic Dredge Schedule.
- Ensure all content is complete, accurate, and aligned with Curtin's strategic objectives.
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Lead and direct internal contributors (estimating, operations, finance, engineering) and external partners.
- Facilitate bid review meetings, assign responsibilities, and monitor progress.
- Provide clear guidance and accountability to subject matter owners.
- Risk & Strategy
- Assess bid risks, opportunities, and competitive positioning.
- Incorporate value engineering and innovative construction methods.
- Align bids with long-term dredge fleet strategy and resource availability.
- Client & Market Engagement
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client debriefings.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, competitors, and upcoming opportunities.
- Represent Curtin Maritime in discussions with clients, partners, and agencies.
- Team Development & Process Improvement
- Mentor and develop estimating staff.
- Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for bidding processes.
- Drive continuous improvement in bid accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).710 years of estimating, bidding, or preconstruction experience in dredging or heavy civil marine construction, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.Proven ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously, with strict deadlines.Strong technical knowledge of dredging equipment, production analysis, pump dynamics, and pipeline routing.Familiarity with bid software and tools (Excel, AutoCAD, HYPACK, etc.).Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills.Strong financial acumen, with the ability to oversee complex cost packages.Valid driver's license, TWIC card, and ability to travel to project sites as needed.At Curtin Maritime, we're committed not only to professional development but also to work-life balance.
