Job Summary

The Lab Support Clerk – Technical Lab provides administrative and operational support to the pathology department by managing slide files, handling physician requests, maintaining documentation, and ensuring HIPAA-compliant record keeping. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the accuracy and organization of laboratory data to ensure timely diagnostic services.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain an organized and efficient filing system for pathology slides

Retrieve slides for physicians and process requests for deeper cuts or special stains

File request forms and documentation for special stains, problem resolutions, and physician requests

Prepare and send duplicate slides to referring physicians and document all correspondence

Manage outgoing mail and maintain postage meter operations

Scan requisitions into OnBase and verify completeness of scanned documents

Perform QA reviews of outside pathology reports and file them with requisitions

Return slides received from external facilities and update tracking systems

Assist other departments with clerical duties as needed

Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA standards

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager, Director, or Physicians

Required Experience

Minimum 1 year of clerical experience in a healthcare, lab, or administrative environment

Experience handling confidential medical records preferred

Familiarity with filing systems and scanning software

Required Education

High school diploma or equivalent required

Required Skills

Excellent organization and data management skills

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Effective communication and teamwork abilities

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic filing systems

Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and data integrity

Preferred Skills

Prior experience in a clinical or laboratory setting

Working knowledge of OnBase or similar document management software

Understanding of medical terminology and lab workflow processes
