Position Summary :
The Surgical Technician at EPC plays a vital role in the surgical team, providing direct assistance to surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiologists in the operating room. The Surgical Tech ensures that the OR environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
Key Responsibilities :
- Prepare operating rooms for surgery, including sterilizing and setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist surgical team during procedures by passing instruments, sponges, and other sterile supplies.
- Ensure strict adherence to aseptic and sterile techniques in all surgical procedures.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery to ensure no items are retained.
- Maintain proper functioning and troubleshooting of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Monitor and maintain surgical inventory and assist in restocking and ordering supplies.
- Transport patients to and from the OR as needed.
- Collaborate with other healthcare staff to provide excellent patient care in a fast-paced environment.
- Ensure compliance with ASC policies, OSHA, and other regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
Qualifications :
Education & Experience :
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.Minimum 1 year of experience in an operating room setting; ASC experience preferred.Licensure / Certification :
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) from NBSTSA or equivalent credential preferred.Skills & Abilities :
Strong understanding of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques.Excellent communication and organizational skills.Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.Detail-oriented and highly dependable.Commitment to patient safety and quality care.Work Environment :
Fast-paced ambulatory surgery center with multiple surgical specialties.Requires standing for long periods, lifting patients / equipment, and exposure to bodily fluids and sharp instruments.Variable hours based on surgery schedule; no nights, weekends, or major holidays typically required.EPC is an equal opportunity employer.
