Based in Whitehall, Michigan, within Whitehall Casting Operations , the Engineering Leader will be responsible for managing and providing technical leadership of the NPI Engineering team, supervising salaried employees, and managing all engineering services. This role provides technical assistance to assigned engineers to meet or exceed quality, cycle time, profitability and customer requirements; coordinates the transition of technologies into production; facilitates process standardization; drives continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and systems; and establishes and maintains excellent customer relationships.
Primary responsibilities include leading the NPI initiative to ensure product development aligns with timelines, budget, and standards; collaborating with customers to advance technical capabilities and deliver benefits to design; working with cross-functional groups to improve capabilities and reduce manufacturing costs; liaising between tooling suppliers, core suppliers and casting houses on NPI projects; supporting the Program Management team; ensuring quotes reflect accurate cost estimations for material, scrap and labor; performing run-at-rate analyses and evaluating technology and capital needs; reporting NPI status to Plant Manager and BU leaders; managing monthly revenue targets for NPI programs; driving yield / cost improvements, product enhancements and problem solving; coordinating scrap reduction with engineering staff.
Other key activities include establishing professional relationships with Engineering Managers and teams at each casting facility, fostering engagement and development of staff, and coordinating training and talent growth with production engineering managers.
Responsibilities
- Manage and direct the New Product Introduction (NPI) initiative ensuring product development in accordance with overall project timelines, budget, and quoted standards
- Participate with customers to advance technical capabilities while delivering added benefits to the customers' design
- Work with other groups to advance technical capabilities and reduce cost of manufacturing processes
- Function as a liaison between tooling suppliers, core suppliers and casting houses on NPI projects
- Collaborate with the Program Management team for project support
- Ensure outgoing quotes are based on accurate cost estimations for material, scrap and labor
- Direct and participate in run-at-rate analysis of future products and capital requests
- Report status of NPI program to Plant Manager and BU leaders
- Manage monthly revenue targets for NPI programs
- Lead yield / cost improvement, product improvement and production problem solving activities
- Coordinate manufacturing and scrap reduction initiatives with engineering staff
- Establish professional relationships with Engineering Managers and teams at each casting facility
- Promote engineering team communication regarding product status and issues
- Foster engagement and development of Engineering Staff
- Manage training development strategies for the Engineering Staff
- Align technical leaders with engineers to grow technical talent

Basic Qualifications
BS in Material Science, Mechanical, Metallurgy, or Manufacturing Engineering7+ years of experience in engineering, including experience in new product launches5+ years of supervisory or management experienceSelf-driven - ability to organize people and activities to get things doneInterpersonal savvy and communication skills (written and verbal)Organizational skills and attention to detailProblem-solving abilityComputer literate (Microsoft Office Suite, Project)Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
