Description :
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical skills, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families.
The ED RN assesses patient needs and identifies urgent or emergent care priorities.
The RN collaboratively provides direct care and applies appropriate interventions.
The ED RN evaluates patient progress using various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions.
He / She utilizes the principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain and discomfort.
The RN assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups and their families.
The ED RN connects with patients and families during triage.
They identify the initial management of patients and assign priority of care in accordance with Triage Standards.
The RN establishes rapport with patients and families, addresses comfort needs, and listens carefully.
They assess nonverbal communication and provide frequent updates.
The ED RN conducts primary assessments of critical needs and documents any major deviations from norms.
They correctly identify necessary interventions required within acceptable time frames.
The RN uses direct observation, patient interviews, EMS reports, and data to conduct secondary assessments.
They identify contributing factors and health history preceding the emergent health event.
The ED RN assesses psychosocial needs and documents any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse.
They reassess patients to identify responses to treatment and changes in condition, responding appropriately.
The RN encourages mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members for optimal patient outcomes.
They teach others as appropriate and delegate tasks consistent with education, training, and scope of practice.
The ED RN understands personal responsibility in safeguarding public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies.
They prepare patients, parents, or families for diagnostic procedures and treatments.
The RN makes appropriate referrals for post-emergency care and teaches patients about continuation of care at home.
They assess patient and family learning styles and structure education sessions accordingly.
The ED RN asks questions to evaluate retention of key learning points.
They seek to understand what is most important to patients and families.
The RN acknowledges that patients and families are central to all care and services.
They embrace the importance of creating a Healing Environment as a key element of professional nursing practice.
The ED RN keeps patients and significant others informed throughout the process of care.
They anticipate the needs of patients and families, including notification of family or support systems.
The RN maintains awareness of the patient's condition throughout the emergency visit.
They update patient communication boards throughout the stay.
