Americas Engineering Design Organization
Our Americas Engineering Design Organization delivers comprehensive engineering services to the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. We are actively expanding and diversifying our capabilities to support the transition to low-carbon energy solutions. These include Hydrogen, Ammonia, CO2, Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), Natural Gas, Natural Gas Liquids (NGL), and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
Electrical Engineer Role
To support this growth, we are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team in either our Baton Rouge, LA; Houston, TX; or Detroit, MI office. This role involves solving complex engineering challenges, conducting technical analyses, and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders across all levels. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing power distribution systems, components, and infrastructure in support of a wide range of energy projects as well as providing power to process equipment and control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- A global organization with the opportunity to work and collaborate across international regions on projects to deliver the highest quality product for our clients
- Energy transition projects ranging from conceptual studies to detailed design with Tier 1 and 2 clients across the energy sector
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and GHD's policies
- Understanding client needs and providing solutions that meet their objectives
- Assist in proposal preparation including scope development and preparation of engineering estimates
- Creation and / or review and approval of power studies (including Arc Flash studies)
- Preparation and / or review and approval of final electrical equipment selection, specifications, and drawing submittals on projects
- Code-driven detailed design work including preparation of electrical engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for green and brownfields facilities
- Project leadership of electrical design resources to deliver studies and detail design projects in the above areas
- Ensuring projects are delivered according to the agreed scope, schedule, and budget.
- Mentoring and career development of graduate and junior electrical engineers within the team
- Continuous networking with colleagues and peers in the industry
- Personal Capability Building : Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
- Engineering Drawings : Create complex engineering drawings to support the communication, evaluation, and implementation of engineering solutions.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical EngineeringProfessional Engineering (PE) License is preferred or the ability to obtain one.Experience
6+ years' experience in the design of electrical power generation, distribution and utilization systems including MV main and secondary substations, power distribution equipment, protective relaying and metering, electrical power generating equipment and systems, UPS and power conditioning systems, lightning and surge protection systems, motors and motor controls, indoor / outdoor lighting systems, electrical heat tracing, wiring methods and / or grounding systemsExcellent understanding of NFPA70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, and NFPA 70B and other electrical industry codes, standards and recommended practicesExperience with ETAP or SKM computer-assisted electrical power study programs including short-circuit, protective relaying coordination and arc-flash studiesExperience working with Visual Lighting softwareExperience in specification of electrical equipment, initiating RFQs, and documenting bid evaluations for equipment selectionBasic understanding of PLC'sStrong interpersonal skills to enable effective interaction with clients, colleagues, designers, engineers, and project managers.Ability to meet with clients to represent our technical capabilitiesStrong attention to detail, adaptable, agile, and responsive to quick changes in directionStrong organizational and time management skillsStrategic thinking and problem-solving abilitiesEqual Opportunity Statement
