About The Position

Must-Have :

• 2 years of Stepdown / PCU experience
• Comfortable with cardiac monitoring and cardiac drips

Description : Unit has 30 beds.

Nurse to patient ratios range from 1 : 4 to 1 : 6 depending on acuity.

Common diagnoses include cardiac patients, post pneumonia, post cath lab, seizures, and ETOH.

Familiarity with CIWA protocols and pacemakers is necessary.

RNs are required to titrate drips including cardizem, amio, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax.

A charge nurse is present on each shift.

The day shift charge nurse may take on a patient assignment if necessary; the night shift charge nurse typically has a lighter patient assignment.

Patient care techs assist on the unit.

Their duties include performing ADLs, taking vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and managing blood sugar checks.

A primary attending is available 24 / 7, with an on-call system at night.

Respiratory therapy is also available 24 / 7.

Respiratory therapists administer breathing treatments and manage respiratory equipment; nurses troubleshoot as needed.

Monitor technicians are present 24 / 7, and nurses are expected to read and interpret tele strips.

Nurses will print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms.

Nurses work a 4-week schedule that allows for some flexibility, but nothing is finalized until the schedule is complete.

Weekend requirements include every other weekend.

Holiday rotation may be asked of staff.

There is no call or standby requirement for this position.

Traveling staff may be floated to any inpatient unit, following the floating policy.

Dress code includes navy blue scrubs.

The charting system utilized is Cerner Corporation - Soarian.
