NURSE PRACTITIONER

SUMMARY : Functions as Family Nurse Practitioner utilizing scientific principals while providing highly specialized nursing care the patients with health problems.

BASIC FUNCTIONS OF POSITION :

1. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

2. Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optional patient care.

3. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals as a member of the multidisciplinary team to assure continuity of care for specific clinical problems.

4. Assesses patient’s needs and directs management of acute and / or chronically ill patients with collaboration of medical preceptor to coordinate treatments and follow-up.

5. Serves as consultant / resource person to patients, family members, significant others in prevention of health problems and resolution of problems by direct intervention and care.

6. Coordinates a plan of care for individual patient and groups to promote comprehensive health care, including physical, emotional and spiritual components.

7. Maintains collaboration with a network of physician specialists, making referrals when appropriate.

8. Collaborates and consults with Medical Directors regarding patient care, making referrals when indicated.

9. Communicates in such a manner as to inspire confidence from patients, visitors, and staff; responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills.

10. Systematically evaluates current clinical practice; initiates change in clinical practice based on current concepts and findings from research and / or studies; acts as consultant in clinical practice.

11. Functions within scope of practice and clinical protocols.

12. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics and so forth.

13. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.

14. Attends meetings as required.

15. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION : Master’s Degree in nursing from an NLN accredited program. Current certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurse’s Association.

LICENSE : Possess current licensure by Missouri State Board of Nursing.

EXPERIENCE : Previous Nurse Practitioner experience preferred.

SPECIAL :

PATIENT CONTACT : Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

PHYSICAL :

STANDING : May spend a considerable amount of time standing.

WALKING : Considerable amount of time spent walking.

LIFTING : Must use good body mechanics to independently lift or in certain situations, assist with lifting / transferring a patient.

VISUAL : Must have ability to read and utilize inspection skills during patient assessment.

HEARING : Must be able to comprehend spoken communication, and auscultate and percuss during physical assessment.

SPEAKING : Talking is essential in patient / family, physician, personnel communication.
