Position Purpose :
Greets and facilitates the needs of all department clients and provides clerical support for the department.
Essential Functions :
- Prepares a variety of memos, forms, letters, and reports using information supplied by supervisor / manager.
- Is expected to master preparation of simple reports so that specific instructions are not routinely required.
- Performs department reception duties that are focused on meeting the needs of all clients by utilizing excellent guest relation skills.
- Provides and ensures timely telephone coverage in the reception area including :
Communication of non-panic patient results on the Call List Record
Responding to telephone requests for patient results utilizing the LIS queryProviding specimen collection information to requesting clients utilizing the Specimen Collection Manual and the Laboratory rolodex.Processes clinical and anatomic pathology client work including preparation for test orders in the LIS, requesting billing numbers for direct bill clients, delivery of properly collected and verified specimens to appropriate areas, entering of references laboratory results and processing of charges.Ensures accurate and timely delivery of printed patient reports to physician mailboxes, outside accounts and other clients as appropriate.Collects, sorts, sends, and delivers mail.Performs departmental typing, Xeroxing, faxing, documents, printing and shredding as well as typing professional correspondence. Maintains related equipment and documents according to section policy.Assist with the training of students and department orientees regarding office procedures including LIS aspects.Achieves and maintains competency for all procedures for which responsible (see departmental competency document).Rectifies various reference lab billing reports at the beginning of each month. Runs and rectifies the Soft billing report daily.Generates orders for nursing home draw as needed.Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor and / or director.Specialized Know-How & Requirements :
High School Diploma or equivalent required.Good computer and typing skills preferred.Medical terminology knowledge preferred.Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments.Ability to organize time efficiency among a variety of duties.Demonstrates the knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served. Able to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, needed by the neonate, pediatric, adolescent and / or geriatric patient group.Compensation Range : $16.75 - $25.13
