Legal Clerk I
Collin County is seeking candidates for the position of Legal Clerk I. This position performs legal clerk duties as related to arraignment processes. Works closely with Justice Judges and jail staff to effectively provide legal and administrative support to the arraignment proceedings. Works closely with the Indigent Eligibility Specialist to ensure system wide compliance per Texas Fair Defense Act and the Task Force on Indigent Defense. Performs eligibility and income verification to determine indigence for defendants requesting court appointed counsel. Coordinates work with jail staff, indigent defense coordinator, court clerks and judges. Ensures application completeness and accuracy through verification. Creates tracking database using computer applications such as Excel. Works directly with defendants in completion of application forms. Performs related duties as required. This position requires driving to multiple county locations daily and availability to work weekends. Work is performed under the direction of the Chief MHMC Attorney.
Candidates must have the knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Knowledge of court proceedings and processing court documents is preferred. Candidates must have at least one year of previous clerical experience, and must have level of education equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Must possess sufficient skill to type at the rate of 35 words per minute. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class C Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
Testing Requirements
Typing tests are administered in the Human Resources Testing room from 8 : 30am - 4 : 30pm, Monday through Friday. You do not need an appointment to test, but you will need to bring a government issued photo ID. If you have any questions regarding the testing, please feel free to call 972-548-4606.
