Patient Care Technician (PCT) Same Day Surgery
Location : Mercy Hospital & Mercy Pavilion
Schedule : MondayFriday | 8-hr or 10-hr shifts
Start Times : 4 : 30 AM, 5 : 00 AM, 5 : 30 AM, 6 : 00 AM, 7 : 00 AM, 7 : 30 AM, 8 : 00 AM
Must be available for all listed shift start times

Role Overview
Support Same Day Surgery and Outpatient Surgery teams by :
Taking vitals and weightsAssisting with patient prep and mobilityEscorting patients / families pre- and post-opInserting / removing IVs, performing phlebotomyTurning over rooms and stocking suppliesAssisting nurses with daily tasksMust-Haves
IV insertion and phlebotomy experienceFlexibility with early morning shift timesStrong teamwork and patient care skillsProfessional Conduct & Safety
Demonstrates understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in healthcare.Promotes safety for patients and self in the workplace.Reports equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department.Core Patient Care Responsibilities
Performs Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) : bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning, repositioning, and transporting patients.Conducts point-of-care testing : blood glucose, weights, vital signs, intake & output.Applies / reapplies telemetry monitors and preventive devices (TEDs / SCDs).Completes basic clinical tasks : simple dressings, bladder scans, specimen collection, restraint placement / removal.Advanced Clinical Skills (as needed)
IV catheter insertion / removal and dressing changes.Foley catheter insertion / removal and straight catheterization.Phlebotomy and "Ticket to Ride" patient transport protocol.May perform advanced procedures : basic arrhythmia monitoring, complex wound care, 12-lead EKG, NG tube clamping / removal.Patient & Team Support
Provides patient / family instruction under RN supervision.Applies, monitors, and removes restraints per protocol.Identifies personal learning needs and seeks guidance for prioritizing tasks.Supports unit activities : answering call lights / phones, passing meal trays, clerical duties.Departmental Contribution
Transports cardiac-monitored patients safely.Participates in quality initiatives and department projects.Documents care accurately in the medical record.May handle or transport medications between departments (limited scope).Education & Experience :
High school diploma or GED requiredPlus one of the following :Option A : 2 years of general healthcare experience and eligibility for Patient Care Technician Senior titleOption B : 1 year of healthcare experience and enrollment in PT / OT / PA program with at least one clinical rotation completedOption C : 1 year of healthcare experience and a completed bachelor's degree in a health sciences fieldPreferred Background :
Nursing student with at least one completed clinical rotationEMT or Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in an EMT / Paramedic programIV insertion and phlebotomy experienceFlexibility with early morning shift timesStrong teamwork and patient care skillsTraining & Competencies :
