Job Description : The Assistant Banquet Manager should consistently achieve the service and product delivery standards with a high degree of client care and service. Assist the Banquet Director and staff in creating and executing exceptional and memorable guest experiences. The Assistant Banquet Manager is responsible with assisting the Banquet Director in the overall direction and helping with the day-to-day operation of the banquet department, in accordance with The Umstead Hotel standards.
Job Requirements :
- Arrive on time, professionally groomed, and dressed according to The Umstead Hotel & Spa standards.
- Demonstrate expert knowledge of all banquet standards, service procedures, and hotel operating policies.
- Lead by example with exceptional attention to detail, communication, and leadership.
- Direct and oversee the setup and service of all banquet functions, ensuring accuracy through detailed pre-shift meetings.
- Coordinate event timing and execution with the Executive Chef / Banquet Chef to ensure seamless service.
- Assign responsibilities to Captains and Banquet Servers, ensuring optimal performance and guest satisfaction.
- Proactively anticipate guest and client needs, address concerns promptly, and deliver thoughtful, solution-oriented service.
- Ensure timely setup and execution of events by managing staff performance and operational timelines.
- Perform key administrative duties including check closures, inventory management, supply requisitions, payroll, and banquet service charge reports.
- Assist with staff scheduling to meet service standards while staying within budgeted labor costs.
- Support the hiring, training, development, and performance management of banquet team members.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, service excellence, and alignment with The Umstead's Vision and Values.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of all banquet areas, including front and back of house.
- Oversee proper use, security, and maintenance of banquet equipment.
- Lead daily pre-shift briefings and quarterly departmental meetings.
- Represent the Banquet Department in pre-conference and operational meetings as needed.
- Promote teamwork and professional conduct across all departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Physical Requirements :
Must be able to continuously stand / walk a minimum of 8 hours.Must be able to periodically lift and carry up to 30 lbs. over the course of a shift.Must be able to bend, kneel, push and pull over the course of a shift.Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per The Umstead Hotel standards.Will be occasionally required to perform job functions outdoors and be exposed to sun, heat, humidity and other elements.Must be able to operate all banquet related equipment : coffee machine, toaster, wine / bottle opener.Must be able to work a flexible shift that includes nights, weekends and holidays.Qualifications :
Education : High school or equivalent education required. Hospitality degree is preferred.
Experience : Minimum of 2 years at a banquet captain position or above at an upscale hotel. Luxury property preferred.
