BED Electrician II-Technician

To install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair substation equipment, supervisory control mechanisms, and remote switching devices. In addition, the position will maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and operate a 25MW gas turbine generator.

Essential Job Functions
- Operate various technical equipment, such as but not limited to, a HIPOT tester, TTR tester, high voltage phase tracer, high voltage megger, etc.
- Install and maintain instrument transformers.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all substation equipment, high voltage switches, switchgear, and system control devices on BED's distribution system and at generating facilities.
- Perform preventative maintenance on the Department as well as customer-owned electrical equipment.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair rotating electrical machinery.
- Keep accurate records and field notes. Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical relaying, power systems, and accessories.
- Maintain and repair distribution transformers, switches, capacitors, and their associated controls.
- Complete substation, major transformer, and capacitor bank inspections and reports.
- Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all electro-mechanical and electronic systems.
- Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot complex fuel handling control systems and boiler firing units.
- Operate and maintain various turbines (i.e., jet engines, gas expander turbines, hydro turbines, etc.)
- Perform the Gas Turbine (GT) on-call responsibility on a rotating basis by responding to after-hour callouts to qualify the GT to participate in the ISO-New England Forward Reserve Market ("FRM").
- Assist other Department personnel in making system repairs.
- Notify the appropriate BED personnel of unsafe customer equipment and conditions.
- Accurately complete applicable paperwork (e.g., material sheets, work requests, system disturbance reports, etc.).
- Perform the level II requirement of BED's switching and tagging list.
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of computerized supervisory control systems and programmable logic controllers.
- Assist in the installation and troubleshooting of fiber optic cables, equipment, and termination boxes.
- Training new system technician employees as required.
- Install and maintain various electrical circuits / breakers / outlets / etc. at BED's buildings and properties.
- Install, maintain, repair, and replace BED's Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE).
- Perform switching and tagging operations on the VELCO and BED 34.5 KV systems.
- Assist in the restoration of BED's distribution system.
- Learn and properly operate the lower controls of a bucket truck and perform bucket truck rescue.

Read and interpret electrical schematic and wire circuit diagrams pertaining to single and three-phase applications required.Basic knowledge of computers and PC based applications.Ability to work as part of a team is required.Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules, and personnel policies.CPR and First Aid certification required or the ability to obtain certification within three months from date of hire.Must have a working knowledge of the NESC, NEC, and safety rules.Ability to communicate effectively and to interact with co-workers and the public.Valid Vermont driver's license required.Ability to work in and around energized, high voltage equipment, in accordance with all applicable safety rules.Ability to work in confined spaces.Ability to work overtime as needed, consistent with the provisions of the BED / IBEW Collective Bargaining Agreement.Ability to splice and terminate fiber connections.Must obtain and maintain Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP) certification within two (2) years of hire.Additional Information
