RANGE : $110,000 - $125,000
SUMMARY : Founded in 1901, Brooklyn Law School is a distinguished, independent law school located in Downtown Brooklyn, New York. The Law School is searching for a Assistant Controller to join our team. The Law School's size, vibrant employee and student population, and commitment to training the next generation of lawyers and promoting social justice, will offer a candidate the opportunity to develop and diversify practical skills and participate firsthand in operating a successful educational institution.
Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing and maintaining the Law School's financial operations. The Assistant Controller will support compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards, help implement best practices in higher education accounting, and ensure fiscal integrity across core financial functions.
Responsibilities include :
- Work with the Controller to supervise and maintain quality control of accounts payable, accounts receivable, student finance, and the general ledger
- Ensure accounting principles and practices, and internal control procedures are followed
- Assist the Controller in coordinating and completing the annual audit and reviewing financial reports as necessary
- Administer policies and procedures in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and industry best practices
- Perform and review monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting activities, including reconciliation of balance sheet accounts
- Create ad hoc financial reports using various accounting systems
- Prepare, manage, and monitor financial reports for special programs and grants in accordance with internal and external reporting needs
- Manage the payment review process
- Manage banking responsibilities to support daily operations
- Other duties as assigned
Required :

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule, requiring a minimum in-office presence of four (4) days per week during the academic year when classes are in session and during exam periods. During the summer and academic breaks, when classes are not in session and exams are not being administered, a minimum of three (3) days per week of in-office presence is required.Travel :
