The RN uses the nursing process to assess patient needs, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate patient outcomes. This position may require scheduled on-call assignments based on community events and emergency department patient volumes. Minimum Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Functions effectively as a team member and liaison between patients and staff. Demonstrates excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills. Maintains professionalism and promotes harmonious communication at all times. Exhibits emotional stability, tact, and sound judgment when caring for patients and interacting with families and coworkers. Maintains composure and professional demeanor in high-stress and emergency situations. Licenses / Certifications Current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse (RN) licensure or compact Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – American Heart Association (renew every 2 years). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification – American Heart Association (renew every 2 years). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification – American Heart Association (renew every 2 years). National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (valid and current). Essential Functions Triage and Assessment : Triage all patients entering the emergency care system and determine care priorities based on physical, psychological, and situational factors. Conduct hourly rounding within the department and every 30 minutes in the waiting area when patients are waiting. Document comprehensive nursing histories, including chief complaints and relevant health information. Care Planning and Implementation : Develop and implement individualized plans of care based on ongoing assessments. Continuously update the plan of care to meet evolving patient and family needs. Incorporate discharge planning and patient / family discussions into the care process. Ensure emergency care equipment and supplies are available and in proper working order. Emergency and Critical Care : Manage all types of emergencies and complications according to hospital policies and ENA standards. Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient health status to ensure safety. Document and act upon patient responses to interventions to facilitate optimal medical care. Patient and Family Education : Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans prior to initiation. Provide accurate information regarding health status, treatment, and discharge instructions. Verify and document understanding of discharge teaching. Non-Essential Functions Perform related duties and miscellaneous tasks as assigned to support departmental operations.
