Role Overview

As our Payroll Specialist, you’ll manage end-to-end payroll operations for a multi-state workforce, including developers, creatives, and support staff. You’ll work closely with HR and Finance to maintain compliance, streamline processes, and support a culture of transparency and trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly and monthly payroll for salaried, hourly, and contract employees across multiple states
  • Ensure accurate calculation of wages, bonuses, stock compensation, and reimbursements
  • Maintain and update payroll records for new hires, terminations, and employee changes
  • Audit timesheets, PTO, and leave balances for accuracy and policy compliance
  • Prepare and file payroll tax reports (W-2, W-4, 1099, etc.) and support year-end reporting
  • Stay current with state and federal payroll regulations, especially in tech hubs like CA, NY, TX, and WA
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and tax forms
  • Collaborate with HR on onboarding, benefits, and compliance initiatives
  • Generate payroll reports and analytics using advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas)
  • Work within modern payroll and ERP systems (e.g., ADP, Gusto, Paylocity, Workday, NetSuite)

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of payroll experience, preferably in tech, gaming, or digital media
  • Strong understanding of multi-state payroll laws, including CA and NY compliance
  • Proficiency in Excel and payroll platforms (ADP, Gusto, Paychex, etc.)
  • Experience with stock options, RSUs, and bonus structures is a plus
  • Exceptional attention to detail, confidentiality, and organizational skills
  • CPP certification preferred but not required
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
