3 10 hour shifts 7 : 30-6 : 00 and / or 6 : 30-5 : 00 Sunday- Friday with rotating weekends and on call shifts
Experience in Interventional Radiology preferred.
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist assists physicians and advanced care practitioners with direct patient care during interventional procedures in the scrub and circulator positions. The IR Technologist delivers quality service through a team-oriented, collaborative approach to care for patients performing various technical procedures that utilize complex multi-modality imaging equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic and acute conditions. Supports subspecialities of peripheral and neuro-interventional radiology in all care settings.
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist
Prepares patients for examination and explains procedures.
Prepares equipment for invasive procedures. Positions the table or / or c-arm, sets up for power injections, and advanced imaging techniques (i.e. DYNA CT). Evaluates and positions patients with a high degree of professional ethics, care, courtesy, patience, and safety.
Prepares patient for procedure using sterile technique. Practices optimal radiation protection for patients and staff. Assures patient, physician, and team needs are met during procedure. Serves as patient advocate on technical aspects of patient needs. Provides patient care, transport, sheath removal, closure site care, dressing application, etc. Ensures that all anatomic or foreign body specimens are properly identified and delivered to the appropriate collection site. Participates in providing and assuring informed consent and patient education is completed accurately.
Evaluates lab results, patient history, procedure contraindications, reviews prior diagnostic imaging, and discusses with interdisciplinary team prior to procedure as needed.
Records and maintains all procedural data. Documents necessary information in the medical record. Records all supplies used during each procedure driving patient charges and billing. Maintains an orderly procedure area, stocks room supplies for daily use, and ensures that procedure space is always prepared for emergent cases.
Obtains and sets up procedural supplies and equipment. Prepares supplies, imaging, and interventional equipment during procedures. Checks systems andtests equipment quality for various support devices. Cleans radiographic equipment and procedural suites.
Operates / supports single and bi-plane digital imaging systems, ultrasound, C- arms, iGuide technology, and other hard and software required. Troubleshoots as needed with vendorsupport and escalates challenges appropriately. Operates multi-modality imaging equipment and administers contrast and procedural-based medications under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physician. Must film cone beam CTs and use IVUS and AccuNav with guidance. Operates, monitors, and processes radiographic, fluoroscopic, and ultrasound imaging equipment for vascular and invasive radiologic procedures.
Acts as first assist tableside managing equipment and supplies as well as back table management.
Assists in emergent conditions. Uses critical thinking skills to manage emergency situations.
Observes patients for adverse reactions and assists in aid when necessary. Performs image post-processing (e.g. pixel shift, motion correct DSA images, film cone beam CTs, window / level) and quality assurance imaging including reformatting, DYNA CT, and / or other advanced software. Responsible for sending and verification of images reaching our PACS system.
Monitors and processes imaging during procedures. Enters patient history, labs, and current case proceedings including equipment / supplies and documentation for various databases.
Participates in educational opportunities, stays up to date on the latest developments and trends in interventional imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment.
Interacts with unit staff, physicians, management, customers, and ancillary departments. Maintains patient, staff and customer confidentiality. Observes and documents data reflective of the patients' status, interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age and specific needs, and provides the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
Assists training students and orienting new employees.
Escalates issues to the Interventional Radiology Technician - Advanced as needed.
What We Require :
Education : High School graduate or equivalent. Graduate of an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
Experience : none
Licensure / Certification : Current RT(R) status through ARRT. Maintains ARRT registry by obtaining required CEU's.
Other minimum qualifications : Effective interpersonal, communication, teamworking, and technical skills required. Flexibility in assignments and knowledge and use of computers, applications, and digital technology is essential. Pays attention to detail. Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position. Demonstrates ongoing competence in the ability to operate or support various ancillary equipment including but not limited to thermal ablation devices, angiojet, power injectors, EKOS, IVUS, penumbra, and lasers. Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, aseptic and sterile techniques, as well as the principles of radiation and associated safety measures. Maintains competencies and meets or exceeds standards for each skill performed through self-study and the attendance of departmental in-services.
