We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead our safety program, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and foster a proactive safety culture across all Smith & Oby projects. What You’ll Do The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring Smith & Oby’s health and safety programs across commercial mechanical and plumbing projects.
This role will provide leadership, training, and support to field teams, ensuring a safe work environment and compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
Safety Program Leadership Develop, implement, and continuously improve company-wide health and safety policies and procedures.
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety observations to ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations.
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; prepare detailed reports; and recommend corrective actions.
Training & Education Conduct employee onboarding and ongoing safety training (OSHA, PPE, hazard communication, confined space, fall protection, etc.).
Promote a culture of safety awareness through toolbox talks, safety meetings, and site leadership engagement.
Ensure subcontractors and vendors adhere to Smith & Oby safety standards.
Compliance & Reporting Maintain all required safety documentation, records, and reports.
Track and analyze safety metrics (TRIR, incident rates, near-miss reports, etc.) to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and participate in inspections and audits.
Collaboration & Leadership Partner with project managers, foremen, and field staff to identify potential hazards and implement solutions.
Support supervisors in enforcing safe work practices and corrective actions when necessary.
Participate in project planning meetings to provide safety input on scope, equipment, and processes. What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of safety experience in construction, mechanical, or plumbing environments.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or OSHA 30 certification strongly preferred.
Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in the field at job sites, conduct audits, and lead hands-on safety training.
