Reports To : Coordinator of Transportation & Safety Services Principal or designee
Job Goal : Provide safe, clean, efficient transportation and care of students so they may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the school system's curriculum and extracurricular program.
Essential Functions :
- Obeys all traffic laws.
- Observes all mandatory safety regulations for the school bus.
- Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
- Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
- Keeps assigned bus clean.
- Keeps to assigned schedules.
- Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects by performing a pre-trip inspection.
- Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Discharges students only at authorized stops.
- Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
- Transports only authorized students.
- Reports all accidents and completes all required reports.
- Enforces all regulations relative to students on the bus.
- Checks bus at the end of each route to make sure all students are off.
- Becomes familiar with and strictly adheres to the contents of the Talladega County Schools Bus Driver Manual.
- Loads students safely onto and off the bus.
- Makes certain that wheelchairs are locked and Q-strap brackets and other wheelchair apparatus are secure.
- Insures that all students follow the bus safety guidelines.
- Maintains proper and professional relationship with students and other employees at all times.
- Maintains confidentiality of special education students and the school system at all times.
- Drives school bus routes as assigned.
- Ride bus, when not driving, to familiarize with routes throughout the district.
- Performs responsibilities of bus aide as needed.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Transportation & Safety Services or Shop Manager.
