This role involves performing comprehensive eye examinations, diagnosing visual disorders, and prescribing corrective lenses while ensuring adherence to HIPAA regulations and maintaining accurate medical records.
- Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough eye examinations to assess vision and detect ocular diseases.
- Provide appropriate diagnoses and treatment plans for patients, including prescribing glasses or contact lenses.
- Maintain detailed medical records using EMR and EHR systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Educate patients on eye health, proper care of contact lenses, and the importance of regular eye exams.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Stay updated on advancements in optometry and participate in ongoing education.
- Ensure a clean and aseptic environment while performing examinations and procedures.
- Assist with the management of optical sales and customer service inquiries.
- Requirements
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid state license to practice optometry.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye care.
- Experience in pediatrics is a plus but not mandatory.
- Proficiency in using EMR / EHR systems for patient documentation.
- Familiarity with medical coding practices is advantageous.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages.
- Ability to perform vital sign assessments as part of patient evaluations.
