Job Summary

The Department of Data Science seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position beginning August 1, 2026.The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the areas of Data Science, Physics, Atmospheric Physics, and related fields, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

The Department of Data Science is composed of 14 full-time faculty including 9 tenured faculty members, in various research areas, including applied mathematics, statistics, data science, astronomy, and physics.The department offers a BS in Data Science with concentrations in Business Analytics, Supply Chain & Logistics, Computational Science & Engineering, and is currently developing concentrations in Applied Mathematics & Statistics, Computational Astrophysics, and Computational Physics. The Data Science department also offers minors in Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Astronomy, Physics, and Data Science.Faculty in this department routinely mentor undergraduate research.Moreover, faculty are encouraged to collaborate on research, not only within the department but also with colleagues from across the campus. Responsibilities

Department Summary

Teaching a 4 / 4 load during the academic year (Fall and Spring); participating in the development of new undergraduate physics and atmospheric physics course(s) in support of our Data Science concentrations; conducting an active research agenda that leads to publications in peer-reviewed venues; and providing service to the department, college, university, and regional business community.

Typical Allocation of Duties :

Teaching and scholarship - 80%

Teaches classes and conducts / presents research in the employee's academic discipline.

Service - 20%

Participates in service at the department, college, and university levels.

Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree at the time of appointment in data science, physics, atmospheric physics, or a related applied field
  • Significant background in Data Science and related fields
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant's career stage
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting
  • A record of mentoring students
  • Proposed Salary

    Commensurate with experience.
