Job Title : Outside Electrical Estimator
Department : Estimating / Electrical Sales
Reports To : Estimating Manager or Operations Manager
Position Summary :
The Outside Electrical Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial, industrial, and / or residential electrical projects. This role involves visiting job sites, evaluating scope of work, reviewing drawings and specifications, and collaborating with project managers, clients, and vendors to ensure thorough and accurate bids. The estimator represents the company in a professional manner while building and maintaining strong relationships with customers and general contractors.
- New Business Development strategies to build relationships and grow revenue.
- Develop and maintain current relationships with vendors, suppliers, and GC to obtain pricing and project information.
- Build strategic partnerships and strengthen market positioning.
- Conduct on-site visits to assess existing conditions, project requirements, and potential challenges.
- Review blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine electrical scope and materials needed.
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to clarify project scope and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare and submit formal bid proposals and change order pricing.
- Track bid results and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
- Maintain a database of pricing, labor rates, and job cost data for future estimating accuracy.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, job walks, and client presentations as needed.
- Ensure all estimates comply with company standards, safety requirements, and project specifications.
Qualifications :
Education : High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, construction management, project Management or related field preferred.Experience : Minimum 3–5 years of electrical estimating experience in the electrical industry.Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and installation practices.Proficient in estimating software such as Accubid, BuildXact, McCormick, Procore or Trimble(Con Est preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite 365.
Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable interacting with clients and field personnel.Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and specifications.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for site visits.Physical Demands and Work Environment :
Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk during site visits and meetings.May be exposed to construction environments, including outdoor conditions, uneven surfaces, and moderate noise levels.Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally (plans, materials, etc.).Work Schedule :
Full-time, Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime or travel may be required to meet deadlines or attend site meetings.
Dress Code :
Business casual in office settings; appropriate PPE and attire required for job site visits.
