Overview

At the heart of our Platform team are our Data Engineers. Data Engineers dive into new client projects to understand how a client's data fits into our data models, creating high performance databases that form the foundation of our work. They work cross-functionally with business analysts, data scientists, web app developers, platform engineers, IT teams, and executives. They provide feedback to help shape the development of Aunsight, our end-to-end cloud analytics platform and associated web applications. Successful Data Engineers are patient, persistent, focused, creative, and incredibly curious, with a passion for learning and finding innovative solutions to challenging problems.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own "one source of truth" data sets to facilitate consistency and efficiency in extracting and analyzing data from disparate data sources
  • Ensure data integrity by developing and executing processes and controls around data flow
  • Innovate and improve efficiency of managing data to speed up analyses, metrics, and insights
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to understand business needs, troubleshoot problems, perform root cause analysis, and develop cost-effective resolutions for data anomalies
  • Contribute to data governance initiatives to support development of efficient systems and data policies
  • Use technology to analyze data, review processes, identify issues, and determine actions to resolve or escalate problems
  • Verify accuracy of table changes and data transformations; test changes prior to deployment as appropriate
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to standardize processes, assure data quality, and reduce processing time
  • Communicate progress to project teams and escalate roadblocks impacting delivery
  • Stay up-to-date on data engineering and data science trends and developments
  • Follow company policy and security standards to protect sensitive data
  • Additional duties as assigned to support client and company success

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related field, or 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with relational database structures, SQL and / or flat files, and data integration tasks
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C#, C++, or Python; familiarity with Node.js
  • Experience with commercial relational database systems and / or clinical or accounting systems is a plus
  • Familiar with data management methodologies, data exploration techniques, data quality assurance, and data discovery / visualization tools
  • Strong curiosity, attention to detail, and ability to see the big picture
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
