Schedule : Monday through Thursday 2 : 15pm - 5 : 30pm; additional time may be required to support set-up and clean up, trainings and meeting with the grant manager. 1 position per site.
Note : This is a grant-funded position under the Stronger Connections grant; employment is contingent upon continued funding and will remain available only for the duration of the grant period, with continuation depending on grant renewal or extension.
Who We Are : Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 14,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located between Chicago and Milwaukee, on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District comprises portions of Waukegan, Beach Park, and Park City.
Responsibilities
- Implement structured activities that support youth development, including educational enrichment, physical activities, arts, and social-emotional learning.
- Lead and oversee the daily operations of the afterschool program.
- Ensure the program environment is safe, inclusive, and engaging for all participants.
- Supervise youth participants and ensure appropriate behavior and conflict resolution.
- Adapt program activities to meet the diverse needs and interests of the youth population served.
- Supervise, mentor, and support program staff and volunteers.
- Provide ongoing feedback, conduct performance evaluations, and ensure staff are trained on program expectations, safety protocols, and child development best practices.
- Organize regular staff meetings to discuss program updates, challenges, and staff development.
- Maintain open communication with parents, guardians, and school personnel regarding program activities, participant progress, and any concerns.
- Collaborate with other community partners and stakeholders to enhance program offerings and ensure alignment with broader community goals.
- Foster a positive relationship with youth participants, encouraging their engagement, participation, and personal growth.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and organizational safety standards and regulations.
- Monitor and enforce the use of appropriate safety measures during all program activities.
- Handle emergencies and incidents according to established protocols, including providing first aid if needed.
- Maintain accurate records for attendance, incident reports, and program evaluations.
- Complete and submit required reports on program participation, outcomes, and any incidents.
- Assist in the collection of data for program assessments and evaluations.
- Help with scheduling, budgeting, and resource management for the program.
- Assist in the recruitment of participants and staff as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education or related field required.Minimum of 2 years of experience in youth development, education, or afterschool programming.Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, and staff; excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.Knowledge of youth development principles, including social-emotional learning and positive behavior support.Ability to work effectively in a team environment and with diverse populations.Passion for working with youth and a strong commitment to their academic, social, and emotional growth.Reliable, responsible, and flexible with a positive attitude.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in program delivery and interactions.At least four years of increasingly responsible experience in public education or related settings, and experience in development, administration, and facilitation of meetings and community groups.Must have a valid Illinois Professional Educator License.Bilingual preferred.Professional experience designing and implementing training and programs for families with a background in Family and Community Engagement.Proficiency in instructional technology tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite).Evidence of strong interpersonal skills for communicating with diverse and multicultural populations.Salary
$35.00 per hour
