Job Description

JOB SUMMARY :

Under direct supervision, this position provides water safety protection for swimmers at College facility. Duties include : interacting with users of the facility in a professional manner on a daily

basis; addressing safety of swimmers for changes in weather conditions; scanning swimming environment to make sure swimmers are following safety guidelines; and performing emergency duties if needed.

Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS :

Possess any

relevant combination of training, experience and education, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Valid certification in Lifeguarding / First Aid / CPR /

AED.

Knowledge of approved water rescue methods and first aid

techniques.

Skill in swimming and water rescue.

Skill in organizing.

Skill with basic computer applications employees use on the job or as employees of the College.

Ability to learn and enforce facility rules and

regulations.

Ability to maintain the safety of patrons and to recognize and prevent dangerous situations from

arising.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work. During an emergency, this position may be required to retrieve a swimmer weighing more than 100 pounds in the water and then lift or drag that swimmer to safety.
