Job Title : Loss Control Specialist
The Loss Control Specialist supports employees with all aspects of the workers' compensation reporting processes. Serves as the point of contact for all reports involving liability, property, and workers' compensation. Works with third-party administrators for workers' compensation, property, casualty, and liability to ensure timeliness of claims management. Reviews and maintains database of Certificates of Insurance and endorsements for citywide events and contracts to ensure proper coverage and protection of the City's interest. Performs analysis and reporting for all claims systems.

Essential Functions

- Works with supervisors and employees to ensure the proper and timely reporting of all the job injuries suffered by city employees; facilitates employees receiving immediate medical attention for serious injuries; prepares and maintains occupational injury reports and files using computer system.
- Supports employees with all aspects of the workers' compensation reporting processes to ensure all service, information and options are received and clearly understood.
- Works with third-party administrator (TPA) with regard to workers' compensation claims and claims management; audits claims information for liability, workers' compensation and safety; tracks and monitors all return to duty provisions and coordinates benefits with FMLA and ADA; provides support and tracking of workers' compensation statutory benefits and city supplemental benefits and partners with payroll to ensure proper deductions are made.
- Serves as system administrator of the risk management information system (RMIS). Works with third-party administrator (TPA) with regard to all property, casualty, and liability claims to ensure timely closure of claims and receipt of payment.
- Investigates accidents, analyzes incidents, prepares reports and recommends corrective and / or preventative measures. Provides reports and analysis on training statistics, use and compliance.
- Manages and tracks OSHA record keeping protocols such as 300 logs.
- Reviews and maintains database for Certificates of Insurance and endorsements for citywide events and contracts to ensure proper coverage and protection of the City's interest; corresponds with other cities agencies, insurance companies and city departments regarding insurance information.
- Interprets human resources policies and procedures.
- Compiles, researches and analyzes data and information and provides support for regulatory requirements.
- Monitors programs for compliance with existing and new laws; analyzes and reviews policies and programs and coordinates changes with Human Resources.
- Assists departments with design and managing workplace safety programs including job safety analysis, safety focused meetings and inspections.
Requirements
Formal Education / Knowledge : Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two-year associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.Experience : Minimum three years of experience in a related field.Certifications and Other Requirements : Valid Driver's License.Reading : Work requires the ability to read general correspondence, memorandums, letters, reports, and federal, state, and city regulations and laws at a college level.Math : Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Injury Reporting Compliance Become familiar reporting process and ensure that 100% of reported employee injuries are documented within 24 hours in the RMIS, with supporting reports filed accurately.Relationship Building Meet with all key stakeholders (supervisors, Payroll, HR, and TPAs) to clarify workflows and responsibilities; document process map by the end of month 3.System Familiarization Demonstrate proficiency in navigating the RMIS and OSHA 300 logs by completing at least 2 sample reports with supervisor approval.Claims Review Review all currently open claims and provide a summary report of outstanding corrective actions to Risk Management leadership.Policy Review Review Policy and guidelines 1000 1085.Vendor Performance Review Develop internal tracking system and lead vendor's development of monthly service level reporting cadence and quarterly service review of metrics such as call duration, system failure, errors, gap analysis and correction of errors.6-Month Objectives (Process Improvement & Collaboration)
